The three things that really matter

• Alba is not a medical device and does not replace the advice of a doctor or dietitian. Before starting any dietary change, speak to a professional.
• Nutrition values are indicative. They come from a collaborative database and from product labels: they may be incomplete or wrong.
• Your data lives only on your phone. Nobody keeps it for you: if you change device, export it first.

Who provides Alba

Alba is developed and distributed by Giovan Battista Lo Buglio (gioviwankenobi), 90011 Bagheria (PA), Italy — info@gioviwankenobi.com.

It is a personal, free project. It carries no advertising, has no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and does not sell your data: there is nothing to pay and nothing asked of you in return.

Acceptance

By using Alba you accept these terms and acknowledge the privacy policy. You are asked to accept them the first time you open the app; if you disagree, simply do not use it and uninstall it.

Licence to use

You are granted a personal, free, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use Alba on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial purposes.

The app is licensed to you, not sold. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

Alba is not a medical device

Before using Alba to change your diet or your weight, consult a qualified health professional. That holds in general, and all the more so if any of the following applies to you:

• you are pregnant or breastfeeding;
• you have, or have had, an eating disorder;
• you have a medical condition — diabetes, kidney, heart, liver or thyroid disease, food allergies or intolerances;
• you are following a drug treatment or a prescribed diet;
• you are a minor, an older adult, or an athlete with particular needs.

Alba is a tool for writing down what you eat and reading it back: it counts and displays, it does not advise, judge, or decide how much you should eat or weigh. The nutrition goals shown in the app are the ones you set yourself, not a recommendation from the developer.

Do not use Alba to make medical decisions. If you feel unwell, if your relationship with food or weight worries you, or if you have doubts about your diet, talk to a doctor.

Accuracy of nutrition values

Data on packaged products comes from Open Food Facts, a collaborative database maintained by volunteers: anyone can add or edit a product. Values may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and a product’s recipe can change without the database recording it.

The generic foods already included in the app use public reference values (USDA FoodData Central) per 100 g of edible portion: these are averages, not the exact composition of what is on your plate.

Alba never invents a value: when calories are missing it converts them from kilojoules or derives them from macronutrients, and if nothing useful is available the product is not shown at all. Foods with partial data stay visible but are marked as incomplete. Even so, the most reliable figure is the label on the product in your hand: where they differ, trust the label.

The maths also depends on how precise you are: a quantity estimated by eye produces a total estimated by eye.

Your data lives on your phone

Alba keeps no copy of your data and has no server to recover it from. Your diary, weight, recipes and goals exist in exactly one place: your phone.

Permitted use

Use Alba for what it is made for, and within the law. In particular you may not:

• use it for unlawful purposes or to infringe the rights of others;
• decompile, disassemble or attempt to derive its source code, except to the extent the law does not allow this restriction;
• redistribute it, resell it, or present it as your own product;
• interfere with its operation or with the third-party services it uses, for example by circumventing the request limits towards Open Food Facts.

Third-party sources and licences

Alba uses data from Open Food Facts. The database is distributed under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0, its individual contents under the Database Contents License, and product images under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike.

The product data shown and stored by Alba is therefore the work of the Open Food Facts community, to whom attribution is due: openfoodfacts.org. Anyone reusing that data must respect the same licences.

Reference values for generic foods come from USDA FoodData Central (public domain). The typeface of the wordmark is Outfit, distributed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Intellectual property

The name “Alba”, the logo, the artwork, the texts and the code of the app belong to Giovan Battista Lo Buglio, without prejudice to the third-party rights listed in the previous section. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of them to you.

What you write — custom foods, recipes, notes, measurements — remains yours, and remains on your phone.

Availability and changes to the app

Alba is provided “as is”. Continuous availability and freedom from errors are not guaranteed.

Online search depends on a third-party service: if Open Food Facts changes its interfaces, restricts access or stops working, that part of the app may stop working without notice. Everything else — diary, weight, water, recipes, history — keeps working with no connection at all.

Features may be changed, suspended or removed in updates. Development may stop at any time: in that case the installed app keeps working, but receives no further updates.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for damage arising from the use or inability to use the app, including the consequences of dietary, nutritional or health decisions taken on the basis of the figures displayed, the inaccuracy of third-party nutrition values, and the loss of data stored on the device.

Age and minors

Alba contains nothing unsuitable for any age, but it is designed for an adult audience. If you are under 18, use it with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian, and after speaking to a doctor or dietitian.

App Store and Google Play

These terms are concluded solely between you and the developer, not with Apple and not with Google, who are not parties to this agreement.

The developer, and not the store operator, is solely responsible for the app, its content and any support. Apple and Google have no obligation whatsoever to furnish maintenance or support for Alba. For questions, complaints or claims regarding the app, write directly to info@gioviwankenobi.com.

The terms of the store you downloaded the app from continue to apply to the download and to updates.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Italian law.

If you use Alba as a consumer, the more favourable mandatory rules of the country where you live still apply, and disputes may be brought before the court of your place of residence or domicile. You may also use the European online dispute resolution platform.

Outside consumer relationships, the courts of Palermo, Italy, have exclusive jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated, for instance when the app changes. The version in force is always the one published on this page, with the date shown at the top. Substantial changes are announced in the app; continuing to use it after an update means accepting the new version.
